The Award was developed in response to pupil feedback which suggests work experience and work skills are the opportunities pupils would value the most from employers.

“The Award is a great way for students who are not quite sure on what they're going to do to get a clearer picture & this will help us to succeed in the future."

Pupil Cantonian High School

Cantonian High School will utilise their Business Forum to deliver the Whats Next Award; a series of in person and virtual careers and work related experiences that provide pupils with the knowledge and insight required to develop aspiration, insight and sector relevant work skills.

The award aims to increase student engagements with employers in the form of meaningful encounters. Students who receive 4 or more meaningful encounters with employers are over 80% less likely to become NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

Learners will get to choose experiences which interest them, but will need to ensure the minimum number of sessions are met in order to pass the award and participate in a work experience placement.

A huge thank you to Cardiff Council Health & Safety for supporting the reintroduction of work experience, Cardiff Council Commissioning & Procurement for funding Unifrog for Cantonian High School and our Business Forum partners for making this possible.
